This is very popular solution when people learn how good it is for them - less pollution and more money in most people’s pockets!
Yes, and we can shame them about that. But also, since that is the case with any effective climate policy, wouldn't it make sense to concentrate our energies into legislating a powerful solution that attracts bipartisan support, and that once legislated will be durable (because most people will end up receiving more money in their cash-back dividend than they pay in trickle-down higher prices)?
The trick is to get the legislation through and then be sure folks understand they are benefitting from it. Canada did manage the first but mishandled the second by using tax credit instead of sending people checks. That's being corrected in 2022.
