Need-to-Know Fact: A gasoline vehicle is 60x more likely to catch fire than an electric vehicle. That’s according to recent statistics from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.

Hybrid engines are 138x more likely to catch fire than an electric vehicle. (Not clear why this is. Perhaps gasoline and electricity don’t mix?)
Gasoline explodes into fire. Batteries are slow to burn giving occupants time to exit.
Battery fires do not burn hotter than gasoline fires.
Battery fires can be harder to put out and require different fire-fighting techniques.
